One thing that cost me more work to understand is why GNU & Linux do not teach in government schools? Being able to teach something different, more innovative and above all, more free, that could bridge the digital divide, reduce piracy and eliminating computer viruses, that are taught to use proprietary software tools. This is a question we should all ask ourselves. Since we are developing Latin American country, and in which we all know, we are not power or have a huge budget to spend on purchasing licenses of Microsoft Windows or Office. Imagine, $ 100 for the Windows license, plus $ 400 per Office license, that's the price of a complete computer. Teach in our schools, GNU & Linux makes me a natural and obvious step for a world of benefits including:
- Greatly reduce spending on education in Mexico
- Free from the dependency of non-free to the following generations.
- Increasing knowledge of these technologies in which children can develop and discover skills they did not have.
As we all know, there are many high quality distributions that have been designed for students and educators. Suffice it to say: Edubuntu, Debian Jr. and several others that will surely provide students and teachers the tools they need for education. How could we do this? For starters, we could start by training our teachers on the subject for, well, may, in turn, begin to implement GNU & Linux on their homes and schools. This will reduce, to a large extent, the use of pirated products in the country since, with free software, pirating is not necessary to use. It is well known that many countries and companies begin to implement as standard GNU & Linux. The real question is, How much is going to take us to do? Although already begun with government initiatives, it is still very new and is quite slow, I think a lot. We know that FLOSS is the perfect solution for developing countries. We know that there is no support in the world for free software. We know that companies tend to migrate. We know that the federal government officially supports the SMEs for use ... Even some of our municipalities have started the migration! Please! GNU & start teaching in schools and Linux! And when they get proprietary software companies and offer them "student licenses to" consider seriously that they are giving licenses so cheap because they know that people can be trained like animals, are educated to use Windows, given the cheap cookie , and when children grow up and leave school and get to work environment, are well trained, and all they do is use Windows. When presented with an alternative, they fear, they think that is unstable, untested and many "un-qualifiers" more. So they have to resort to proprietary software, and how much it costs money, or invest heavily to remain legal, or use piracy. http://www.sip.gob.mx/mundo-unix/468-porque-linux
