Pastel Tux THE October 5, 1991 Linus Torvalds in the list comp.os.minix announced the availability of version 0.02 of its kernel, which had no official name yet, and that Linus described as being "even usable. It was the beginning of the legend.

0.02 The Linux kernel was the first really usable for Linux, and in fact there was no official announcement of the kernel with version 0.01. The source files were not even executable, and simply contained the rudimentary structure of the core system. The 5 October was a date much more "official" since Linus announced the availability of its Kernel 0.02, which was already able to run a bash (the GNU Bourne Again Shell, a command interpreter) and gcc (the compiler GNU C).

Diario Ti: Sophos Security Report in July 2008 on cybercrime, indicates that users of Mac OS X and Linux are part of organized gangs target of hackers because of the increase of users of those operating systems.
